On Thursday, 12 April 1849 it was Proclaimed that as and from 21 April of that year the South Australian Government Gazette would be published every Thursday from the new Government Printing Office premises in Victoria Square, Adelaide. A Proclamation was also made that day appointing Mr William Caddy Cox as Government Printer from 16 April 1849.
This began a long tradition of the Government Printing Office publishing the Government Gazette. The location of the Government Printing Office has changed several times during the ensuing years-from Victoria Square to King William Road; to the Netley complex in the early 1970's and now to the Riverside Building in North Terrace.
However, publication day still remains as Thursday for the main Gazette but with Extraordinary and/or Supplementary Gazettes being published regularly, as and when required.
